Delivery

Some of our physicians see infants in the nurseries at St. Thomas Midtown and Vanderbilt hospitals. If your pediatrician does not make rounds at the hospital where you deliver, we are happy to meet your baby shortly after discharge in the clinic.

Returning Home

  • Always place your baby on his/her back to sleep
  • Avoid bumpers, stuffed animals and loose blankets in the crib
  • DO use a firm mattress with tight-fitting sheet that fits snugly in the crib
  • If your baby falls asleep in another location, return him to a safe sleep environment as soon as possible

Breastfeeding is the preferred method of feeding your infant and our staff is equipped to support you in what can be a challenging transition.  Our lactation consultants work at the Midtown campus and provide hands-on care to help you through issues with latch, routine, supplies and more.  Some prescription and over the counter medications can accumulate in breast milk, please contact our office if you have questions about safety during breastfeeding.  If using formula is the better choice for your family, your STMG physician can discuss the best formula choices for your baby.
