Dr. Newton Perkins Allen, Jr. has practiced internal medicine with the St. Thomas Medical Group since 1989 when he completed his residency at Vanderbilt where he had also attended Vanderbilt Medical School. He practices primary, secondary, and tertiary care.
He holds an appointment at Vanderbilt University as a clinical professor of medicine and teaches medical and nursing students as well as medical residents He has been a physician leader in healthcare policy with the Tennessee Medical Association for many years.
He travels extensively, speaks French. He is married and has three young adult children. He is an elder at Second Presbyterian Church. Finally, an important avocation is music. He writes and plays music locally with his trio, “Doc Allen and the Heartstrings”.
